How WhatsApp Business API pricing works

Since 1 July 2025 Meta charges per delivered message, not per conversation. Each message your business sends has one category, and the price depends on that category and on the country code of the phone number you send it to. Messages your customers send you are free.

From 1 October 2026, two kinds of message that used to be free are charged again: service replies after the first 1,000 a month per phone number, and utility templates sent while a customer service window is open.

Marketing
Promotions, offers, announcements, abandoned-cart nudges and re-engagement. The most expensive category, with no volume discounts.
Utility
Updates about something the customer did or asked for: order confirmations, delivery updates, bookings, payment reminders. Cheaper, with volume tiers.
Authentication
One-time passcodes for logging in or verifying an account. Usually priced like utility, with its own volume tiers.
Service
Free-form replies within 24 hours of the customer's last message. 1,000 a month free per phone number, then charged from 1 October 2026.

WhatsApp API pricing FAQ

How much does the WhatsApp Business API cost?
Meta charges for each message your business delivers, at a rate set by the message's category (marketing, utility, authentication or service) and the country code of the number you send to. For example, from 1 October 2026 a marketing message to the United States or Canada costs $0.0250, to the United Kingdom $0.0635 and to India $0.0118; a utility message to the United States costs $0.0034. Messages customers send to you are free.
Are WhatsApp service messages free?
Not any more. From 1 October 2026 each business phone number gets 1,000 free service messages a month (they do not roll over), and Meta charges for every service message after that at the service rate for the country. Service messages are free-form replies sent within 24 hours of the customer's last message.
Do I pay for utility messages sent while the customer service window is open?
Yes, from 1 October 2026. Utility templates sent in reply to a customer within the 24-hour window were free from July 2025 to September 2026; they are now charged at the normal utility rate.
What are WhatsApp volume tiers?
Utility and authentication messages get cheaper as you send more of them in a month: Meta counts your messages per market and category across your whole business portfolio, and each band of messages is charged at its own lower rate, up to 25% below the list rate. Marketing and service messages have no volume tiers. The calculator applies the tiers for you.
What is the authentication-international rate?
A higher authentication rate in some markets, charged only to businesses Meta has told are eligible: those sending more than 750,000 login-code messages in 30 days to users in those markets while being based in a different country. Meta gives 30 days' notice by email before it applies. Most businesses pay the normal authentication rate.
Can WhatsApp messages be free?
Two ways. Messages customers send you are always free, and when a customer messages you from a Click to WhatsApp ad, your replies open a free entry point window of up to 7 days in which Meta does not charge for marketing, utility, authentication or service messages. The calculator does not assume either, because they depend on your traffic.
Which currency does Meta bill WhatsApp in?
Meta bills in one of 16 currencies chosen when your WhatsApp account is created (including USD, EUR, GBP, INR, BRL, AUD and AED), each with its own published rate card. This calculator uses the US dollar card. Businesses in countries without their own billing currency, such as South Africa, are billed in US dollars.
Does my WhatsApp provider charge on top of Meta's rates?
Often, yes. Many WhatsApp Business Solution Providers add a per-message markup, a monthly platform fee or both. This calculator shows only what Meta charges, so you can compare providers' prices against the real cost of the messages.
How often does WhatsApp API pricing change?
Meta changes rates only on the first day of a quarter (1 January, 1 April, 1 July or 1 October), with at least a month's notice. The rates here are the card effective 1 October 2026.
